Can Florida win the recruiting battle against Kentucky? The truth is until John Calipari came to the Kentucky Wildcats Billy Donovan and The Gators were winning the battle. In recent years, Kentucky has made inroads and now the battle is getting hotter than ever. What does Florida need to do to win this battle on a yearly basis?

One of the biggest keys to winning the hearts of recruits is consistently beating Kentucky home and away. You want to show future recruits that you can play with anyone in college basketball and that includes the Kentucky Wildcats. By beating them on a consistent basis that will stick in a recruits mind. Another area that will help Florida is by going to the state of Kentucky and drawing some of their top recruits to Florida. Nothing can say you are winning the war than grabbing a few of their top prospects.

Billy Donovan is a great coach and motivator and is one of the main tools Florida basketball has to win this recruiting battle. He knows Kentucky well and how to get some of the top recruits to Florida. It will be tough, but this is a battle that Florida can win by staying consistent and not giving up.

NCAA Basketball recruiting is as competitive as ever at the college level. In fact, some would even say that it is more competitive than it used to be. The fact of the matter is that more and more athletes want to go to college and so they are striving for scholarships. Similarly, there are more schools that want the top athletes and some are willing to do anything to get their man. That is why Florida has such a hard job battling Duke for top athletes. While Florida has great colleges such as the University of Miami and they will always recruit top players, there is a draw and pull that Duke has which cannot be matched easily.

Duke is one of the top colleges in the country and every kid dreams of going there. If a kid was offered a scholarship between duke and a Florida college, chances are they would choose Duke. That is why Florida needs to go above and beyond and offer the student other incentives to join. Helping their family move close to them, or some nice gesture of the sort can go a long way towards the student recognizing how much Florida wants him. That may help them in the recruiting battle.

After winning back-to-back NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007, the Florida Gators struggled in 2008 and 2009, and did not even make the NCAA Tournament. In 2010 they lost in the first round to BYU. In 2011 the Florida Gators, a number two seed, advanced to the Elite Eight to face the eighth seeded Butler Bulldogs. The Bulldogs pulled off an upset in overtime, and crushed the Gators dreams of returning to the Final Four. The loss was particularly devastating because following the season, the Gators lost three integral players when SEC Player of the Year Chandler Parsons and center Vernon Macklin entered the NBA draft and forward Alex Tyus graduated. This leaves Gator fans with a question of “When will Florida win the NCAA Tournament again?’

So who will be on the 2012 roster and what are the chances of coach Billy Donovan’s team winning it all? Well, Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton will be returning to the starting lineup and should provide a good portion of the Gator offense. Florida will also have a couple of new faces that you should look out for. Mike Rosario was a redshirt last season after transferring from Rutgers, where he scored an average of 16 points per game as a sophomore. Brad Beal, touted as the seventh-best recruit in the country, will be playing guard for the Gators and should have a significant impact. The question is, will this new group be good enough to make the NCAA tournament, advance round by round through the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, Final Four, and win the NCAA championship? The answer; probably not, but they are young and should be exciting to watch. And, it is college basketball, so anything could happen come March.

It’s fall which means your direct television is consumed with football game after football game. Sure, you love the pigskin but if you’re really missing the Miami Heat you’ve only got a couple more months to go. So what’s been going on with your favorite team in the meantime? We’ve got the scoop
Internal Combustion? After last year’s devastating finals loss there have been rumors circulating that the three big names on the Miami roster haven’t been getting along quite so well. It’s probably all speculation but if we know those three, we’re inclined to believe.
Lockout Over? The idea is that the lockout is going to be over sooner than anyone thinks so we don’t think anyone should make too big a deal about a possible delayed season. It’s not going to happen for the Heat or anyone else.
Eddie Curry? With his weight coming off at record rates the center might be getting a second look from some of the higher ups in the Heat organization. We love to think Eddie might be a great replacement for Oprah.

America knows. LeBron James took his talents to South Beach. He met up with a guy with the last name of Wade. Chris Bosh signed up, too.

This was all very exciting, but at the end of the day, basketball in Florida belongs to the collegiate ranks.

Billy Donovan has built a program that might be the envy of many colleges across the country. There is something to say about the purity of college basketball that strikes a cord with the residents of Florida.

Florida is a state that has many residents that came from somewhere else. That said, it’s almost ironic that Florida denizens don’t get behind the Miami Heat team. But maybe that’s the exact reason. Locals in Florida already have their professional team. If you’re a snowbird from New York, you’re a Knicks fan. You came here from Chicago – how ’bout those Bulls?

Pulling for the collegiate team, though, is easy. A college team strikes a sense of community. People don’t grow as attached to a college team in their hometowns, unless they’re a graduate. This leads to an easy jump to the collegiate team in their new state.

Thus, the Miami Heat will never be the emperor in South Florida. Or any part of Florida. But God bless them for signing LeBron.

Florida is hot! I think that this is the number one reason why basketball is not played more often in Florida. Heat is dangerous because it can cause dehydration and heat stroke. Playing basketball outside in extreme temperatures would be brutal. With temperatures reaching up to an excruciating 100 degrees, the conditions are not safe for a hardworking athlete. Because of the uncomfortable heat, athletes focus their energy on other sports. This concludes that basketball is not the most popular sport in Florida because of the weather. Although basketball can be played indoor or outdoor, more people play for fun then competitively. Most people who grew up in Florida have been around pools or beaches their whole life. Ultimately this means that athletes in Florida are more interested in competitive swimming or surfing. Water sports are fun because they keep you cooled down and are different from every other sport. Therefore, common sense would seem to dictate that water sports would be the first choice for most. However, basketball is still very well-liked in Florida! With professional, college and high school teams, men and woman are still constantly playing basketball. Basketball players train all year to become collegiate or professional athletes which can be difficult in humid and hot weather. This is a crucial reason why Florida basketball is not favored.Keep looking, there’s more: Health Blog Q&A: What Kills Athletes on the Field

Playing high school sports takes dedication, scheduling, and perseverance. Some teens just don’t have the discipline to be able to participate on the court and keep high grades in the classroom. As grades are most important, these students are unable to participate in extracurricular activities. Sports, namely basketball, are a large part of living a well rounded life, but how is one to become a great high school basketball player?

Balance is the key to keeping your stress levels low. Becoming too stressed about your schoolwork or about performing perfectly on the court can cause issues in all areas of your life. Stress can interfere with your normal sleep schedule. Not sleeping well enough will have negative effects on your day such as not having enough energy to fully participate in basketball practice or falling asleep in class. If you do become too stressed, take a time out. Step back and take a look at your whole life. Take a deep breath, and then step back in. Be sure to make time for yourself to relax. If you are going all the time, you’ll become weary of everything. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask. Your friends and family will be more than happy to help.

Quite simply, no! On a national level, football’s popularity is unrivaled and that is no different in Florida. Kids learn at a very early age that the high school football stars get the most attention, date the prettiest girls, and become local celebrities.

Over the past decade or so, football popularity has skyrocketed and basketball has been on a slow and steady decline. Fans can’t get enough of the blue collar work mentality that football players demonstrate each week. With no guaranteed contracts, players can be cut at any time if their play is unsatisfactory. So players play through sprains, strains and even broken bones and the everyday fan can relate and appreciate that toughness.

Basketball players on the other hand, do have guaranteed contracts. There are countless examples of players busting their butts to receive their first huge guaranteed contract, then to fade away into mediocrity when they are rich beyond their wildest dreams and have nothing left to prove. It’s hard not to view these players as entitled, when quite literally, they ARE entitled to every bit of their money whether they produce or not. This perception of the players is a major turn off to the fans.

It would take several major, likable stars to emerge for basketball to have a glimmer of hope to overcome football in popularity. Football is king, and looks to stay there for the foreseeable future.Related Article : Funeral held for Pennsylvania high school football player killed in N.C.
